Albuquerque – MASS GRAVE – West Mesa Bone Collector

The remains of 13 bodies, 12 women and a unborn child, were found in a mass gravesite outside Albuquerque, NM beginning in Feb, 2009. Given the dates these women disappeared, between May 1, 2003 and the end of December, 2004, the bodies have been buried for several years. This case remains unsolved. While the police are guessing Lorenzo Montoya was responsible for these deaths, there is continued speculation that others were involved. The reward has been increased to $100,000 for any information leading to the arrest of their killer(s).

These women were mothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends. Names from top left to bottom right: Veronica Romero, 27, Cinnamon Elk, 31, Evelynn Salazar, 29, Virginia Cloven, 26, Doreen Marquez, 27, Monica Candelaria, 22, Victoria Chavez, 24, Julie Nieto, 23, fingernail from unidentified victim, Jamie Barela, 15 (no involvement in sex work, last seen with cousin, Evelynn Salazar), Michelle Valdez, 22, and unborn child, and Syllania Edwards, 15.

  1. The fingernail actually was from Syllania Edwards’ body, according to New Mexico investigators. They released the photo of the art on the nail shortly after she was identified in hopes that the technician who created it may be able to provide police with more information about when they were applied. Edwards was reportedly last seen in Denver, Colo.
